The A41 is a major trunk road in England that links London and Birkenhead, although it has now in parts been superseded by motorways. It passes through or near various towns and cities including Watford, Kings Langley, Hemel Hempstead, Aylesbury, Solihull, Birmingham, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton, Newport, Whitchurch, Chester and Ellesmere Port. It follows part of the line of the old Roman road, Akeman Street and the eighteenth century Sparrows Herne turnpike. With the opening of the M40 extension in 1990 from junction 8linking with the M42 near Birminghammuch of the route was downgraded in importance. The sections between Bicester and the M42 near Solihull were classified A4141, A4177 and B4100. == Route ==
